Citizen's Police Academy

When the Citizen Police Academy was brought up to us my first thought was "ok Thursday night come down take a few photos OK yeah I can do that."
By the end of the First night well I was hooked. There was so much information.
Throughout the 15 weeks I learned things I was unaware of. I learned what our officers go through on something as simple as a traffic stop. I learned of the dangers they face, I learned of things that keep them from doing their job that is totally out of their control. I learned of the daily battles they have to deal with just to do their jobs.

Carlsbad Police and Wal-Mart Bicycle-Scooter Rodeo

The sun was shining the kids were on the bikes laughing. The adults were in the shade talking. Sounds like the perfect saturday afternoon.
Now add in police, paperwork, and instructions. It changes the image to something no one wants to think about.
Fortunately for the people of carlsbad it was an instructional day for the children so that nightmare image does not happen.
Thanks to walmart and the carlsbad police the children were able to attends the bicycle-scooter rodeo. Now these children are educated in how to safety ride their bikes on the city streets.

Merchant Safety and Security Training by the Carlsbad Police Dept.

All around us are signs that the holidays are close. The air is a little crisper, the stores are changing all the displays, the city is decorating the streets, and the CPD is giving seminars on holiday safety and security to the local merchants.
Corporal Baca and Officer Tomko talked with merchants about Code enforcement, the Wise Eyes program and Security during the holidays and how to make sure that you, your employees, your home and family were safe during this time.

Those who have dedicated themselves to protect us have taken it one step farther, thanks to Chief Tom Whitten, Capt. Kelly Lowe and the hard working officers and staff.

Tom Udall and Wanda Welch of Keep Carlsbad Beautiful spoke at the event, and Santhia Collins sang "The Star Spangled Banner." (quoted from Matlin Smith Current-Argus Staff Writer. Current-Argus Story) along with the public officially opened the new section of the department as well as the new Liberty Park.

Law Enforcement Memorial 2010

The day is quite and we are all going about our business when all of the sudden a siren goes off, the sound of a Police car racing through the streets. For anyone who knows a police officer this is something that makes you hold your breath and pray. For all of those who did not come back from the call of duty. We honor you.
Carlsbad Police Department Memorial ceremonies were held with honor, tradition and dignity. Please join us in remembering through the images that follow.
